近期,HWCD合伙人孙炜接受了首屈一指的奢华房地产杂志《LP·地标》的专访,讲述了经营跨国建筑设计事务所的心得和对他的工作至关重要的中西结合的设计理念。

ART OF ADAPTING
Wei Sun, founding partner ofShanghai-based, London-based and Barcelona-based architectural firm HWCD has aglobal approach to design. LP talks with Sun about his ever adapting viewpointsand work. 
HWCD (Harmony World Consultant &Design) is a fast-growing design firm with international teams based inShanghai, London, and Barcelona. The firm’s portfolio includes boutique hotels,high-end residential and urban design. Emphasis on detail and the incorporationof local cultures is fundamental to HWCD’s design process, whether it be urbanplanning, architecture, landscape, interiors or product design. Partner Wei Sunspoke with LP about running a multi-national design and architecture firm andthe global perspective driving his work.

How did your global perspective of designbegin?
Studying abroad had a major influenceon me. It helped to reconstruct my thinking logic. In China, design is graphicand technical. In London (where he studied) design has a culturalrepresentation – you think who you are designing for; his character, hisroutine, his style. This was a fundamental change for my design approach.


您是什么时候开始形成自己的设计理念的?
国外求学经历对我影响很大,帮助我重新思考设计本来的意义。在中国,设计更偏向技术性工作,平面化的表达方式。而在我求学的伦敦,设计是再现文化个性的方式,设计师要考虑客户的身份、性格、日常习惯和生活方式。将抽象的文化身份,用具象化手法表现。


You also worked in Iran at an early age?
Iran was also a place I foundinspiration. I followed a professor of mine there. I had no prediction of whatit would be like. I joined seven other classmates from Egypt, Thailand, Peruand London. It was eye-opening. I really wanted to investigate a new lifestyle.We worked on urban planning in an ancient Muslim town. Iran is a very modern insome ways. We helped to connect the old town to the existing modern spaces.


您年轻的时候在伊朗设计过项目?
伊朗也给了我设计灵感。我是跟着一位教授去伊朗的,同行的七位同学来自埃及、泰国、秘鲁和伦敦等不同国家。那时我对伊朗的认识非常有限,而那个项目开阔了我的眼界。这个和中国关系紧密的国家,在体现自己国家个性的同时,也有很多地方与中国文化呼应,让我不时有种“他乡遇故人”的熟悉感。更加有趣的是,我来自世界各地、不同文化背景的同事,对这个国家的体验、感兴趣的视角和我很不同,在互相交流中,我们彼此深刻了体验,丰富了理解。正是从这里开始,使我进一步意识到不同文化和生活方式对设计理念的重要影响。


What about design in China?
In 2000 the National Opera House was designedin Beijing at the time of my studies in Nanjing. It made me wonder: “What do wecall Chinese? What is modern Chinese life? What do we use every day? And whatare we doing now?”
I think Chinese design tends toreference identities or has an academic approach. But identity is not fixed, itis always changing. My lifestyle is also not fixed. Everything changes andcontinues to change. Design must adapt and be present.


您怎么看中国的设计现状?
2000年,北京的国家大剧院正在设计中,我当时在南京学习。这个项目让我开始思考:“中式指什么?现代中国人的生活方式是怎么样的?中国的民族特性怎么在设计中体现?”
在我看来,国内的设计方案对于中国民族个性的表达偏于传统。万事万物都处在变化中,并且会持续发生改变。设计也要因地制宜,随环境和生活方式的改变而变通。


How has this outlook changed your own projects?
Look at this (pointing to a master planon his desk for a large scale villa community). Just as the project of Xi'anVilla,we tried to break the traditional design idea of villas. By analyzing theorganization of spatial sequence and forms, partition of spaces and utility ofdecorative patterns ,we try to express the spiritual needs and the living wayof modern Chinese .


这一看法对您设计的项目产生了哪些影响?
比如我们西安院子这个项目,我们就打破行业内别墅固有的设计思路,从空间序列组织、空间形态处理、空间分隔方式以及装饰纹样运用着手,来表现现代中国人的居住方式和精神需求。


What is your global strategy for HWCD?
Our strategy is to keep our design teammulti-cultural. Diversity is key. We inspire each other often. We all havedifferent understandings of the same thing. 
Our London office has strong resourcesand acts as a supportive office. It’s small and it's expenses are big butLondon brings us top quality designers. In our Barcelona office we focus mainlyon boutique hotel design. The team there has a lot of experience in boutiquehotel design and material usage. That office mainly concentrates on projects inChina. We looked into the Middle East, but it is too complicated. Here inShanghai and South East Asia our clients are expanding, so we plan to grow withthem. Australia is also a market we are eyeing,becausesome of clients are buying upproperties in Sydney.


您为事务所设计了什么样的全球策略?
我们的策略就是让设计团队保持国际化和多样性。因为对于同一件事情,不同背景和生活方式的团队成员有着不同的理解,在交流后往往能摩擦出不一样的灵感火花。
伦敦作为国际化设计中心,在那里的办事处主要为我们引进更多设计的新思潮,提供各种资源整合。
巴塞罗那办事处以精品酒店设计为主,那里的团队在精品酒店设计上有着丰富的经验。而在上海和东南亚,我们的客户越来越多,所以我们有扩容的打算。澳大利亚也是我们密切注意的市场。因为我们有一些客户在悉尼买了不少房产。


What are you working on now?
Several things. There’s the FahuaLongshan Cultural Tourism Project. Tien Tai is the first religious branch ofBuddhism in China and our resort’s design language will be themed around this.We use the lotus and various religious references throughout the space. Constructionwill start this year.
We are also working on a fashionboutique hotel in Yangzhou, in the town centre. Its small but fully featuresrooms will all be cutting edge with digital integration on every level of hotelservice.The rear of the project is home to a boutique hotel that can be adestination for anyone who wishes to immerse themselves in the creativeenvironment of the project. The project has four mixed-use social spaces andcourtyards combining living, work, and play spaces.
We are also opening our furniture shopin Hongqiao. Products are a mix of different styles. How you use them is key.


您目前在忙些什么?
好几项工作,比如法华龙山精品禅修酒店。天台宗是佛教在中国的第一个宗教分支,酒店的设计语言也是以佛教为主题。我们使用了莲花和不同的宗教主题装饰。项目将于今年开工。
我们还在扬州市中心设计一座时尚精品酒店。该项目将现代化的数字互动融入酒店各个层面的服务,为希望体验和融入这个充满创意的空间的客人提供一个充满艺术感的休憩场所。。项目中有四处综合性社交空间和庭院,将起居空间、工作室和娱乐区放在了一起。
同时,今年我们还在虹桥开设了高端订制家居店。
